Enjoyable remake. Yes, the 1990 TV movie was great fun, especially Tim Curry as Pennywise the clown, but you need rose tinted spectacles to think that it was better than this version. the effects and some of the acting was terrible. In this new version we have Good acting, great effects with a feel of a horror version of Stand by me. Lots to like, I'm looking forward to watching part two. A definite thumbs up.

Honestly I'm someone who likes the occasional scare, but I scare easily. I wanted to watch this movie, hearing that it was a big hit, but unfortunately was let way down. The characters weren't likeable, the clown pennywise wasn't in the movie near enough, and I honestly thought this movie was funny, not scary in the slightest. I definitely wasn't expecting that because as I said before, I scare easily.

I was watching this latest remake of all things 80s, and couldn't help but think how much this was like Stranger Things, which itself is an 80s homage. The problem with this movie is it tries too hard to not be like the original and has added random jump scares that make absolutely no sense. The Pennywise in this movie is somewhat creepy but lacks the flair of Tim Curry's version of the same character. Which made him both appealing and frightening. This Pennywise clearly is dark, there isn't any sense of being put at ease prior to the scare.
This was a good movie to watch if there was nothing else on TV and you were curious to see what this remake was all about. But I can see myself being disappointed if I had paid to see this in the theater. Good thing I didn't!
This movie is basically like the 80s miniseries, but the first half of it. The sequel I believe is based on the second half when they are older.
